Facing an Old Friend in 1975
Date: 1974-75 Season
Looking to repeat as NBA World Champions, the Celtics won 60 games and collected their fourth straight Atlantic Division title in the 1974-75 season behind All-Stars John Havlicek and Paul Silas. But the Celtics came up short in the 1975 Eastern Conference Finals when they ran into Wes Unseld and Elvin Hayes of the Washington Bullets, a mighty team coached by old friend K.C. Jones. Heading into the matchup, Jones had great respect for his former team. “No way we’ll have an easy series, no way at all. Hell, these are the Boston Celtics and they’ve been on top for a long time,” he said. The Celtics fell to the Bullets in the series, 4-2.
