Greg Kite Flew High
Date: 1980s
Selected by the Celtics with the No. 21 overall pick of the 1983 NBA Draft, Greg Kite helped the team win two NBA World Championship titles in five years. He’s best remembered for his heroics during Game 3 of the 1987 NBA Finals, when the injury-riddled Celtics were down 2-0 in the series against the Los Angeles Lakers. Off the bench, Kite excelled in defense and rebounding. He brought the Boston Garden crowd to its feet in the third quarter by chasing Magic Johnson during a Lakers fast break, blocking his shot and grabbing the rebound. “He came out of nowhere. It was a great play,” Johnson admitted. Kite’s efforts rejuvenated the Celtics and helped Boston win Game 3.
