Heinie’s Perfect Jumper
Date: 1950s to 1960s
Tommy Heinsohn’s shooting prowess, captured with this picture-perfect jumper, earned him the nickname “Tommy Gun.” Over his nine seasons playing with the Celtics, Heinsohn averaged 18.6 points per game in the regular season and 19.8 points per game in the playoffs. In addition to his jump shot, Heinsohn’s offensive repertoire included exceptional body control, a devastating hook shot and an unshakeable confidence when he had the ball in his hands. When asked about Heinsohn’s style of play, Celtics legend Bob Cousy once said, “the confident player is the one who takes the initiative and wins games for you.”
