The Celtics landed Walter McCarty in a trade with the New York Knicks before the start of the 1997-98 season. In his first campaign with the C’s, McCarty played in all 82 games and averaged 9.6 points per game. Celtics broadcaster Tommy Heinsohn’s trademark phrase, “I love Waltah,” made McCarty a fan favorite in Boston. On his bobblehead night, McCarty’s 11 points off the bench weren’t enough as the Celtics fell to the Phoenix Suns, 128-119. Just a few days after his bobblehead game, McCarty, coincidentally, was traded to the Suns.
