Improvements, but Still 24 Seconds
Date: ca. 1970s
While original NBA shot clocks were made from scratch, manufacturers had a chance to make improvements by the 1970s. Some of the advances included a black background as opposed to grey for better sight, as well as a cover for the lights so that balls bouncing into the clock didn’t break them. The shot clock has endured since its introduction in 1954 and has been widely credited with saving the game of basketball from itself.
