Introducing Lucky the Leprechaun
Date: Undated
Perhaps the most famous logo in professional basketball, Lucky the Leprechaun has been a part of the Celtics in one form or another since 1950. The current Lucky, with his trademark shillelagh and bowler hat, was designed in the early 1950s by Red Auerbach’s brother Zang. The earlier leprechaun had a pipe and a shillelagh, but wore a championship crown rather than his bowler and often sat on a basketball rather than balance one on his finger. This handmade wooden Lucky was made by a former Celtics staffer and his father.
