Just What the Doc Ordered

Just two days after the Celtics bounced out of the 2004 NBA Playoffs, Director of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge found his new head coach in former Orlando Magic Coach Doc Rivers. “Doc’s style is great for the type of team we have,” Ainge said of the 2000 NBA Coach of the Year. Ainge’s belief in Rivers proved instrumental as Rivers led the Celtics to 45 victories in the 2004-05 season and their first Atlantic Division title since 1992.
