The Celtics honored legendary coach Red Auerbach with a bobblehead, complete with his signature victory cigar, during a 2003 game against the New Orleans Hornets. Boston drew on the magic of Auerbach’s night and defeated the Hornets, 93-65. Auerbach coached the Celtics for 16 seasons, which included nine NBA World Championship titles and overseeing nearly 1,200 games. After his coaching retirement in 1966, Auerbach served as the general manager and then president of the team until he passed away in 2006.
