While Lucky the Leprechaun had been the Celtics mascot dating back to the 1950s, he didn’t exist in the flesh until 2003 when the team hired a gymnast to make high-flying, acrobatic dunks to entertain the crowd. Since then, Lucky has made scores of appearances at charitable events and paid engagements across New England. One of those stops included a visit to Crusher, the mascot of Boston’s G League affiliate in Portland, Maine. Initially called the Red Claws, the G League team was rebranded as the Maine Celtics in 2021. Consequently, Crusher went from being a red lobster to green.
