Pierce’s Passion for Kids
Decked out in holiday gear, Paul Pierce and Doc Rivers joined Santa Claus in passing out gifts at Boston Children’s Hospital on December 6, 2010. Pierce had been active with the hospital for years, receiving the Champion Award in 2006, which honored Boston athletes for their work enriching the lives of children. Not only did Pierce help establish the Paul Pierce Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery at Tufts Medical Center and the Floating Hospital for Children, he also worked passionately through his Truth on Health charity to end childhood obesity. “I started changing the foods I ate, I started changing the way I rested, and I saw a difference in my play,” said Paul about switching his habits in his late 20s. “And I was like, ‘Wow, this is something I can use to help influence other people, other kids.’”
