Practice Is for Larry Bird
Date: 1980s to 1990s
Larry Bird had a legendary work ethic in practice and stamina from his love of distance running. Whether running two miles to training camp, continuous laps around the second level of Boston Garden, or hitting the roads before practice, Bird found a way to run. While this puzzled Celtics Coach K.C. Jones, Bird remembered that Jones never stopped him but once asked Bird why he ran so much. Bird replied, “I don’t know. I don’t have anything else to do, I guess.”
