Red Looks Ahead
Date: 1984-85 season
The 1984-85 preseason media guide looked back on the team’s recent NBA World Championship title, but ahead of that season Red Auerbach looked toward the future by trading his starting point guard Gerald Henderson to the Seattle SuperSonics in exchange for their 1986 first-round pick. Auerbach later said that even then he had his eye on University of Maryland superstar Len Bias, who the Celtics ended up drafting No. 2 overall. Even without Henderson on the floor, that season the Celtics finished with a 63-19 record and were crowned champions of the Eastern Conference once again.
