Shaking Things Up in 2005-06
Date: 2005-06 season
After winning the Atlantic Division in Head Coach Doc Rivers’ first season, anticipation was high for the 2005-06 Celtics, but a slow start stunted the team. A huge midseason trade shook things up by sending Ricky Davis and Mark Blount to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for Wally Szczerbiak. Despite the changes, Boston finished with a disappointing 33-win season, missing the playoffs for first time in five years. Yet there were some sparks of light on the horizon, including Paul Pierce’s continued high production and fifth straight All-Star nod, Kendrick Perkins’ team-leading 51.5 field-goal percentage and the signing of beloved Celtics figure Brian Scalabrine.
