Shaq Wears the Shamrock
Whether you called him “Shaq,” “Diesel” or “The Big Aristotle,” there was no denying the presence of Shaquille O’Neal. For 18 seasons, Celtics fans watched him beat up teams on his way to four NBA World Championship titles, including three with the rival Los Angeles Lakers. Boston finally got to root for O’Neal when he signed as a backup center in 2010. Though he played only 39 games, Celtics fans made an impression on Shaq. “I was a hypocrite when it came to Boston fans. Before I got there, I really didn’t like you guys but when I got there, you guys opened your arms,” he said during his 2016 Hall of Fame induction ceremony. “One thing about Boston, you guys appreciate hard work. I wasn’t ‘Shaquity Shaq,’ I just came out and did what I was supposed to do. I think they appreciated it.”
