Slade’s Barbecue

For generations, athletes and celebrities have loved to open restaurants. Bill Russell was no exception. In 1964, Russell purchased Slade’s Barbecue, a long-standing Roxbury institution. Throughout the 1960s the restaurant and bar hosted by civil rights leaders such as Muhammad Ali, Martin Luther King and Malcolm X. Though it has changed hands a number of times since, Slade’s is still going.
