The End of a Chapter
With Ray Allen’s shocking move to the Miami Heat, the 2012-13 Celtics regrouped behind veterans Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett for one final chapter. The Celtics were frustratingly inconsistent – at one point they won six in a row only to lose the next six – and finished with a 41-40 record. Of course, the team’s travails took a backseat on April 15 with the bombing of the Boston Marathon’s finish line. As a result, Boston’s final home game was cancelled and the Celtics didn’t return to TD Garden until Game 3 of the Eastern Conference First Round against the New York Knicks. The Celtics didn’t play well in the contest but responded with a thrilling overtime win in Game 4 and a triumph in Game 5 to get back in the series. The Game 6 defeat would be the last home game for Garnett and Pierce, who were traded to the Brooklyn Nets after the season while Coach Doc Rivers moved on to the Los Angeles Clippers.
