The Purist Shooter
Date: 1960
Sam Jones built a Hall-of-Fame legacy that still resonates today. The shooting guard spent 12 seasons in Boston and won 10 NBA World Championship titles during that span, more than any player in NBA history besides, of course, his teammate Bill Russell. Regarded as one of the most accurate shooters of the late 1950s and the 1960s, Jones helped power the Celtics dynasty with clutch shots in the playoffs, including his classic buzzer beater in Game 7 of the 1962 Eastern Division Finals against the Philadelphia Warriors. “He was the last of the good guys. The purist shooter I have seen. The Bank is closed,” Russell tweeted in tribute of his teammate after Jones passed away on December 30, 2021.
