The Boston Celtics began their storied history as a franchise part of the Basketball Association of America (BAA). The team struggled in its inaugural 1946-47 season, finishing fifth in the Eastern Division with a 22-38 record. Coach John “Honey” Russell (center, front row) led the Celtics as the first coach in franchise history.
